Framing the “Framing” Proposition

Highlighting the Art

First and foremost, any frame you choose should complement the art it’s framing. The last thing you want to hear first is, “That’s a gorgeous frame.” Choosing the appropriate frame for your artwork can be an arduous task. There are literally hundreds of thousands of choices. Let us help you narrow the field and arrive at the perfect frame.

Blending With the Environment

Frames should also blend successfully with the interior/exterior environment. Your framer should inquire about the space the art will inhabit. What are the types and colors of the wood, tile, paint and other materials selected for the room? What is the “look” that already exists or is being planned for the space? Colors, textures and accents are important considerations, you want your frames to blend and integrate seamlessly with the room and it’s accents as well as highlight the artwork.

Narrowing Your Choices

Frames are classified according to the following types:

  • Contemporary-- have clean lines and very little crafted decorative details and are usually made from wood, synthetic wood and metal; usually silver.
  • Traditional—also referred to as “Classic,” are wood and metal frames with gentle curves.
  • Italian— features elaborate textures and blended colors.
  • Rustic—or “Cottage” frames take on distressed and/or washed out looks.
  • Tropical—typically uses bamboo as the main material.

Within each one of these categories are a variety of styles, materials, finishes, colors and sizes (widths).

Use Your Framing Contractor Effectively

After determining your needs based on the criteria outlined above, your framer should be able to pull a number of options within your budget, that work with your room’s design scheme and complement the art. In addition to the style, the size of the frame should work in proportion to the art and it's interior space.

I encourage you to call us for a superior selection of frames, matting options, glazing, exceptional workmanship and surprisingly low prices.

Nov15Are You Paying Too Much for Your Frames?
Know Before You Go

You may be paying way too much for your picture framing. The inequalities begin by accurately translating “design speak” into “framer’s speak.” There’s a significant difference between the “finished size” and the “glass size” of a piece of art, the measurement framers use to calculate final prices.
